Funky Gift Topper!

Do you ever have those creative moments where you hit a stroke of crafting genius? Like when you think of a craft or creation you never thought of before and it's like "Ah-ha! That is brilliant!"
I had one of those moments when I was staring at my craft closet wondering what in the crap I was going to wrap my friend Stacey's birthday gift in. Stacey likes an funky and fresh gift topper as much as a blogger should, so I knew conventional bows were kind of a no-go if I wanted to make my gift card (boring gift) really special.
And then I saw it...a mini Styrofoam ball I had cut in half for this craft last December. It was flirting with me and I wasn't about to walk away. I set that blank canvas Styrofoam ball down on my craft table and started pulling other supplies from the shelves.
Gold pipe-cleaner? Uh, yea.
Pink and green lace flowers. Of course.
Pearls and lace bows and sequins. This is a craft project after all.
And then I plugged in the trusty glue gun and glam-ed out that Styrofoam ball like a boss.
I must admit, It turned out pretty darn fabulous. It sends off a Tim Burton meets Marie Antoinette kind of vibe, don't cha think?
I like it!
I am thinking of adding some of these to my shop (and giving my shop a face lift while I'm at it...because it really needs one). Stay tuned for some new products from yours truly ;)
Annnnnd....there is a slight chance I went overboard and posted 13 photos of this one gift on this post. So, there.

Photo Wall DIY

I am such a fan of the photo wall. I mean, whats not to love? It makes for a great photo backdrop, it livens up a party, and (best part) it makes guests express their silly side! Which is great...because nothing is more awkward than an awkward party silence. Am I right? I kinda think photo wall backdrops are brilliant because they are so super easy and affordable...easy and cheap are craft crowd-pleasers for sure.

PS...enjoy my feet in these photos. I swear they were clean and I swear to wear shoes in posts from now on.

1| The first of, well 2 steps is to cut your design out of craft paper and apply tape to the back. Liam's birthday party was orange, gold, and triangle theme so my color and shape selections were such. I'm brainstorming a couple other photo wall shape and color ideas so stay tuned.

2| I began taping the triangles to the wall near the ceiling and worked my way down. My goal for the pattern was to not be exact, but to be symmetrical. If you are an exact pattern kind of person, I wont judge :).

As you can see, my pattern was pretty balanced and provided great visual interest for party guest photos.
Best part...the guests loved it! Photo walls make parties a hit!

Liam's First Birthday: Part 2!

You may not have thought about this, but it is a little hard to know what kind of activities to do at a 1-year-old's birthday party. They are kind of in the in-between stage where they are not really a baby baby, but they are not quite a toddler. Basically they are there to eat and be darling. So what better to do at a 1-year-old party's than eat lots of yummy food, and take adorable photo wall picture of our mugs? We did just that. Ate and ate and ate and took lots of pictures...

Liam's First Birthday Party: Part 1

 

The combination of Easter partying and teething woes have compelled us to live in slow motion for a week. But the time has finally come to celebrate blog-style my little Nugget's first birthday! I have to tell you, being the mother of a 1-year-old is a complicated thing to be. Your heart bursts with excitement for the little man he is. You anticipate eagerly the little boy he will become. More than anything you pray it will all slow down a bit.
On Liam's birthday I just soaked in all his gushy nummy-ness. I kissed his fat rolls and the back of his neck. I held on to 11 months. And then I threw a party that was fabulous if I do say so myself.
So fabulous, I kind of wish he didn't nap for half of it.

If you don't know this about me then you may not know me at all...but I am a little bit detail oriented. Combine that with overachiever and things begin to become a little wacky. And I was not about to throw a party without details like party-hat-wearing woodland animal cupcake toppers. So long as we are outside with woodland animals, we might as well have mini teepee food labels and big teepee for Liam to match. Feathers and triangles seemed to just go so they appeared on the treat bags, photo wall backdrop, and gift labels. And let's not forget my obsession with orange and gold. I hereby declare Liam's theme colors to forever be orange and gold.

I loved the way this little event came together, but a party wouldn't be a party without a sweet little Nugget the throw it for. Stay tuned...more photos to come!
